How to read this result

  • What a pip is

The shared unit for price movement. A move of 0.01 on yen pairs, or 0.0001 on dollar-quoted pairs, is 1 pip.

  • The value of one pip

For the same number of pips, ten times the lot size means ten times the profit or loss.

  • Where it helps

When you set a stop-loss distance, you can check in advance what that distance is worth in money.

Method and specification

  • Main inputs used

Currency pair / Lot size / Pips (or amount)

  • When to use it

Converting a stop-loss distance into money / Turning an EA's results from pips into amounts

  • Notes

Calculated at 1 lot = 100,000 units (100 ounces for gold). Dollar-quoted pairs and gold are converted into yen at the USD/JPY rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is 1 pip worth?

It depends on the currency pair and the lot size. On yen pairs such as USD/JPY, 1 pip is a move of 0.01 JPY, so one lot (100,000 units) makes 1 pip = 1,000 JPY. On dollar-quoted pairs such as EUR/USD, 1 pip is a move of 0.0001 USD, so one lot gives 10 USD (about 1,500 JPY when USD/JPY is 150).

What is the difference between pips and points?

A pip is the standard unit of price movement; a point (pipette) usually means one tenth of it. On MT4/MT5 accounts that quote three decimals (yen pairs) or five decimals (dollar-quoted pairs), the final digit is the point. This tool calculates in pips.

Does it work for pairs other than yen crosses?

Dollar-quoted pairs (such as EUR/USD) and gold (XAU/USD) are converted into yen using the USD/JPY rate. Cross pairs that involve neither the US dollar nor the yen, such as EUR/GBP, are not covered. For exact amounts, check the contract size and settlement currency at your own broker.
