Total swap by holding period
How to read this result
Total swap
The daily figure multiplied by the number of days held. A positive figure is received, a negative one is paid.
Per day
This scales with lot size - double the lots and you double the swap - so it matters more the longer you hold.
Using the yearly estimate
When the swap is negative, compare this figure with the profit you expect over a year to judge whether the position is worth holding.
Method and specification
Main inputs
Currency pair / direction / lot size / holding period / swap points
When to use it
Deciding whether to hold long term / planning a carry strategy / comparing brokers
Notes
A flat daily amount is used (the triple swap on Wednesday is not applied). Pairs not quoted in yen are converted at the USD/JPY rate, so pairs that do not involve the US dollar are approximate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I find the swap points?
In the table your broker publishes, or in MT4/MT5 by right-clicking the pair in Market Watch and opening Specification. The figures differ between long and short and change daily. Enter them here exactly as shown.
Why is Wednesday charged three times?
Spot FX settles two business days after the trade, so a position held from Wednesday into Thursday carries the weekend as well and is charged three days of swap (some brokers do this on Thursday instead). This tool uses a flat daily amount, so it will differ from what you are actually charged.
Is it ever fine to hold a negative swap?
It is only one factor. Over a few days the price move usually outweighs the swap. Over several months, however, accumulated negative swap can exceed the profit. Use the yearly estimate to see the scale of it.
How accurate is the conversion for dollar and cross pairs?
Pairs not quoted in yen are converted at the USD/JPY rate. That is correct for pairs quoted against the US dollar such as EUR/USD or XAU/USD, but pairs that do not involve the dollar - EUR/GBP, for example - are approximate. Check your broker's statement for exact figures.
